Junior soccer starlets from Wortley Football Club are ready to fly the flag for the English game in two overseas tournaments.
The club's under-11 boys' team have just jetted out to Amsterdam to take part in a competition featuring youngsters from across Europe.

Then, at the end of next month, Wortley's under-16 boys' side will be going for glory in a tournament being held in the Barcelona area.

The club's development officer, Roy Kearsley, said both sets of lads were looking forward to showing off their skills on foreign fields.

He said: "In the past we've organised tours to places like Blackpool and Skegness, but a while back we sat down and looked into the possibility of going abroad.

"Now it's come round and everyone is obviously very excited."

Mr Kearsley paid tribute to all those who had helped raise the £8,000 or so needed to make the trips possible.

Wortley FC run three open age teams as well as sides for dozens of boys and girls from under-7s through to under-18s.
