Trading standards Standards has launched an investigation after a toy tricycle snapped in two, throwing a Wortley todder to the floor face first.
Two-year-old Eythan Sykes-Dixon suffered black eyes, bruising and a lump on his head after a handle used to push the tricycle snapped off.
His mum, Dawn Sykes, 26, of Bruce Lawn, Wortley, watched in horror as the tot toppled over the handle bars of his Smart Trike.
Now Ms Sykes has complained to Trading Standards which says it is investigating whether this is a one-off or a design fault.
Argos, from where the toy was bought, said it was looking into the complaint but said it is an isolated incident.
Ms Sykes said: "It's dangerous! The back of it tipped forward onto the
front wheel and the weight of my son pushed the whole thing forward and he's landed on the floor. The bike's now in pieces.
"I think the products should be recalled. I've also reported it to Trading Standards. I have contacted Argos and they don't seem to be interested. I sent a letter recorded delivery and they've not even rung to see if he's ok. It's disgusting!"
A spokesperson for Argos said that all products sold by the store met EU and UK safety standards.
"Argos is very concerned to hear about an accident regarding a toy trike purchased by one of your readers.
"In order to conduct an investigation, it is essential that the trike is returned to a local store.
"Argos does take incidents of this nature seriously and we would like to reassure all our customers that this is an isolated incident.
"The safety of our customers is of paramount importance to us at all times. We ensure that all products included in the catalogue and available online do comply with the relevant EU and UK safety standards and all products are regularly monitored through our safety monitoring system.
"As a responsible retailer, all Argos products go through rigorous safety procedures before being made available for purchase."
