A Farnley woman has admitted stealing more than £17,000 from her mother who was then murdered by the thief's daughter.
Maureen Hussey, 56, from Whincover Drive in Farnley, pleaded guilty on Monday to theft from Annie Garbutt, 77.

In eight months to March 2007 Hussey raided her mother's savings 14 times.

Hussey's daughter Joanne was jailed for 20 years last week after she was found guilty of battering Mrs Garbutt to death with a spade. The killing happened in the May just weeks after her mother made her final illegal cash withdrawal.

Appearing at Bradford Crown Court, Maureen Hussey admitted regularly stealing money from her widowed mother's account. Most of the thefts varied in value from £750 to £1,200.

But during one of her last withdrawals Hussey – a grandmother herself to Joanne'e disabled daughter – took £4,000.

The thefts only came to lights during the police investigation that led to Joanne Hussey.

At her sentencing this month, Judge Scott Wolstenholme told her "it is clear that you wanted your grandmother's money to be available for your and your mother's use".

A jury found the former schizophrenic had turned killer to get her hands on her grandmother's savings and to avoid expense if the pensioner went into a care home

She was alleged to have asked her mother to offer a friend £1,000 in return for saying she knew about the voices (Joanne] claimed told her
to kill.

The court heard that Maureen Hussey had been "reluctant" to get involved in any bribery and had "actively encouraged" her daughter not to pursue it.

Appearing at Bradford Crown Court, Maureen Hussey sat in the the dock with her hands clasped for most of the half-hour hearing.
Speaking only to confirm he name and her pleas, she admitted 14 offences of theft but denied a further seven. She also pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice, on which she had been jointly charged with her daughter.

The judge accepted her guilty pleas and agreed to let the other charges lie on file. She will be sentenced on Friday, July 25, at Leeds Crown Court.

Judge Wolstenholme bailed Hussey but warned her to expect a jail sentence.

Joanne Hussey, 33, of Yeadon, battered Mrs Garbutt, an Alzheimer's sufferer, to death with a spade in her cottage in Mirfield. She had claimed that voices in her head told her to 'get rid of grandma'.
