Gorgeous Farnley lass Janeena Basra has sparked a cross-border battle of beauty after scooping a title in Cheshire.
The stunning 23-year old has just won a place in the final of the Miss England contest after winning the regional Miss Halton Pride contest.
If she wins that, the brainy beauty - who has two University degrees - will go on to represent her country in the Miss World pageant later this year.
However as a Leeds native triumphing on the other side of the pennines, Janeena's victory has angered some people who believe a local girl should have won.
Miffed Halton folk have flooded a local website with comments such as "Where is the justice in a girl from Leeds being crowned?" and "How is she going to fulfil her duties as Miss Halton Pride?"
Another irate local said bluntly: "I bet the new Miss Halton had never even heard of the place until a few weeks a go. Disgraceful!"
And some even went as far as to brand her win "ridiculous" and called on Janeena to renounce her crown and "realise that her title is a joke".
Janeena - a former Leeds Girls' High School pupil who studies in Manchester - is taking everything in her stride and said she will be "honoured and delighted" to represent the people of Halton.
"I have not broken any rules," she said. "As long as you are British it's fine and I study in Manchester. A girl from London could win Miss Leeds.
"I'm just taking things in my stride and laughing (the criticism] off. I'm not going to let it get me down.
"But I'm representing Halton and I will be honoured to do so."
Pageant rules dictate that contestants do not have to originate from a particular area to represent it.
Janeena had hoped to enter the Miss Leeds contest, but just missed the deadline.
It's been a tough road to the title for the cross-border beauty, who also revealed she had been assaulted by a jealous girl in Manchester just two weeks before the regional heat, and had feared it had scuppered her chances.
"I was attacked because I had entered a beauty pageant as I had been promoting myself," she explained. "I had a huge swollen lip and couldn't talk or eat.
"When I looked in the mirror I thought there was no way the judges would even look at me."
But she did win, and Janeena explained her victory happened partly by chance.
She had turned up to enter the Miss Cheshire contest which was being held simultaneously at the same venue, but as only two girls had entered, organisers decided to merge it with the Halton contest.
The Leeds girl triumphed over a 'native' local rival Donna Hayes.
She said she was proud to be in the Miss England pageant and was confident of doing well.
Janeena is currently studying for a Masters in Natrophatic Nutrition at Manchester University after completing her BSc in Human Nutrition.
She is hoping to start her own health clinic.
The Miss England pageant will be held in London's Docklands on July 18th.
The winner will represent England at Miss World in Ukraine.
Janeena is not England's first Asian-origin beauty queen to represent
her country.
Afghan-born Hammasa Kohistani became the first Muslim Miss England in 2005 and in 2006, Yorkshire lass Preeti Desai was crowned Miss Great Britain after the original winner, Danielle Lloyd, was stripped of her title when it emerged she was romantically involved with one of the judges.
