New Farnley is a village to the south-west of Leeds, mainly around the A58 road from Leeds to Halifax but also west of the A6110 Leeds Outer Ring Road.
Stately home Farnley Hall is situated nearby.
New Farnley borders Wortley and Pudsey though is much more rural than these areas.
Housing in the area varies from typical terraces to sprawling estates, with some new homes being constructed.
The area has a number of local shops.
It is covered by the Pudsey/Weetwood police division and West Yorkshire Police's Neighbourhood Policing Team for West Outer has responsibility for the area. There is a regular police surgery at Cow Close Library for residents to speak to officers.
It is in the Leeds City Council ward of Farnley and Wortley, which is bordered by Armley to the north, Pudsey and the Bradford area to the west, Beeston and Holbeck to the east and Morley North to the south.
The Outer West Area Committee has responsibility for the ward and meets regularly to discuss local issues particularly keeping the streets clean, youth services in the area and community safety.
The MP for Leeds West is Labour's John Battle.
Data compiled in 2004, using information from the 2001 census, shows Farnley and Wortley ward had a population of 23,145, the majority of whom - just over 40 per cent - were in the 30-59 age group.
Education Leeds data from 2003 shows 36.5 per cent of GCSE candidates achieved five or more A-C grades.
According to information from Leeds Benefits Service, 24 per cent of ward residents are claiming benefit.
Farnley Hall Park's origins can be traced back to the Domesday Book, while its fish pond was created after the end of the Napoeonic Wars.
For children, there are several playgroups in New Farnley, as well as three primary schools and a secondary, Farnley Park High School.
Churches include St James's Church on Whitehall Road, St Michael's Church on Chapel Lane and St Winifred's Catholic Church on Whincover Bank.
Sports clubs include New Farnley Cricket Club, which runs cricket and football teams for all ages.
Community organisations include Old Farnley and District Community Association based at Hillside Hall which runs bingo, a local history group, senior citizens clubs, playgroup and drop-in youth club.
One GP's surgery is based in the village.
